Members of Paphiopedilum, one of the important historical and present-day horticultural orchid genera, exhibit diverse shapes, colours, and morphological characters. They are widely distributed throughout the Eastern Himalaya and N. E. India with 9 species recorded from the region, 3 species of which grow in Assam. The paper deals with descriptions, and photographs have been provided with a key for identification purposes.
